Course Outline

This CPCAB accredited course is only open to counsellors who already hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or above. This course qualifies the practitioner to work with children and young people up to the age of 18. The course:
  • Provides essential underpinning theory of child development and its application in practice.
  • Looks at legal and therapeutic similarities and differences between counselling children and adults.
  • Explores creative approaches essential for counselling children and young people
  • Requires 100 hours of clinically supervised placement which must include working across all age groups (minimum 30 hours in the following three age groups 3-9, 10-13 and 14-17)
  • 12 hours of personal therapy

Time Requirement

115 hours of contact study, usually bi-weekly spread over 20 weeks, where you will learn to:
  • Work safely, professionally & ethically with CYP
  • Manage relationships in a therapeutic setting.
  • Explore diversity & difference in the therapeutic process.
  • Use appropriate ways of working to respond to the needs of CYP.
  • Use self-awareness when working with CYP.
  • Understand and apply appropriate theoretical models to working with CYP.
  • Reflect on own practice with CYP.

Placement

Walk Tall can offer placement opportunities in our CYP BACP Accredited counselling service. The course is predominantly online with 2 compulsory face to face skills days in North Kent on week 4 and 13.
